1、 Common types of home wiring

(1) Distinguish from materials

The commonly used home wiring can be divided into two categories of materials:

One type is polyvinyl chloride insulation, also known as PVC, which contains chlorine elements. When burned, it emits a large amount of thick smoke that can suffocate people, affect visibility, and produce some carcinogens and HCl (hydrogen chloride) gas, causing serious harm to the environment. It has poor resistance to acid, alkali, heat, oil, and organic solvents, but it is quite cost-effective, wear-resistant, and flexible.

Another type is our emerging product, low smoke halogen-free polyolefin insulation. The so-called low smoke emphasizes that combustion will not produce a large amount of thick smoke. Halogen-free refers to the fact that the cable manufacturing materials do not contain halogens, such as chlorine and fluorine, so the smoke produced after combustion does not contain corrosive substances such as hydrogen chloride. The crosslinked LSZH polyolefin insulation has slightly higher hardness, but its heat deformation resistance and aging resistance are further improved.

(2) Distinguish from conductors

Divided into two categories based on conductors:

One type is single core wire, also known as hard wire, which has a certain strength, is sturdy and durable, has good conductivity, is not easy to oxidize, and is more resistant to short-circuit current impact. It is suitable for use in fixed places. When wiring, single core wire connection is more convenient, but the wire is harder to straighten after bending, and repeated bending and straightening are prone to injury. It is often used in fixed and buried environments;

Another type is multi-core wire, commonly known as flexible wire, which is composed of multiple strands of small copper wire. It is flexible and easy to lay, and can bend well without breaking. It is easy to install, drag and move, but if it is often affected by short-circuit current, the surface is relatively prone to oxidation after high temperature.

(3) Differentiate from performance

With the continuous changes in household electricity demand, different performance wires have been upgraded.

(1) Flame retardant performance, as the name suggests, refers to the ability to prevent the spread of flames. It can prevent cables from burning easily in the event of an electrical fire, reduce the spread of flames in the event of sustained combustion, and naturally extinguish after leaving the fire source;

(2) Fire resistance performance, some of which are similar to flame retardancy, but emphasize the ability to maintain safe operation for a certain period of time and maintain line integrity under flame burning conditions. It is mainly used in high-rise buildings, subways, underground streets, large power plants, and important industrial and mining enterprises related to fire safety and fire rescue;

(3) High temperature resistance refers to the ability of wires and cables to work in high temperature environments, delaying the speed of deformation and aging. The rated working temperature of wires and cables we usually use is generally between 70-90 ℃. If it is a normal usage environment, it can be fully competent. However, if we want to have a higher temperature resistance level, we need to use high-temperature resistant materials to produce wires and cables, such as the newly launched 105 ℃ and 125 ℃ new material wires on the market. Such products are easier to cope with high household electricity loads or temporary short circuits;

(4) Anti aging performance refers to the ability of wires and cables to maintain their original performance under the action of mechanical stress, electrical stress, thermal stress and other external factors, which can largely delay aging and extend service life. It should be noted that although wires and cables have anti-aging properties,
